The future president of the Oxford Union has been removed from his position after failing a vote of confidence that came after his controversial online comments about the conservative activist.

The vote against the student leader achieved the required super-majority to oust him from his position, according to an announcement from the society.

Disputed Comments

The controversy began after the student reportedly posted messages on online platforms that seemed to welcome the killing of the American conservative figure, who was shot dead while addressing a university in Utah.

According to reports, one Instagram post reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the phrase 'lol'.

The president-elect is also said to have written in a WhatsApp chat with other members seeming to welcome the incident.

Vote Outcome

The vote of confidence took place over the recent days, with outcomes revealed on Tuesday.

Society announcements showed that 1,228 ballots were cast in favor of no confidence, while just over five hundred were against the motion.

The announcement stated that the future president was considered to have resigned in following the society's regulations.

Procedural Disputes

Proceedings were informally suspended early on Monday after the election official was allegedly subjected to "obstruction, intimidation, and unwarranted hostility" from several representatives.

In a response, the student asserted that the vote tally had been stopped because election administrators believed "no valid outcome could be reached as a result of procedural failures".

His response unequivocally denied that any representative appointed by George had participated in threatening or obstructive conduct.

Ongoing Dispute

The student stated that significant concerns had been referred to the disciplinary committee and that he remained the elected leader.

His statement added that he was "proud and thankful to have the backing of significantly more than half of university members" who voted to have a "safe election and oppose efforts to undermine the electoral process".

Opponents have said that any failure to remove him would "demonstrate internationally that the Oxford Union has chosen ideology over integrity".

External Reactions

On recently, Mikey McCoy presented an public message to the society on The Charlie Kirk Show broadcast.

The letter criticized the union of becoming a institution where "presidents of the union publicly celebrate the assassination of a political opponent".

The statement warned that if the student were to keep his position, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every U.S. political figure who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name".

The society had earlier criticized the student's remarks after Kirk's death and confirmed that complaints filed against him had been referred for official review.

The student leader had been one of several students to debate with Kirk at the union in May.
